President Donald Trump said Saturday that a peace deal with Iran would be signed on Sunday, claiming the agreement would prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.
“The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform. Since an April 8 truce paused the most intense fighting in the conflict, Trump has repeatedly insisted a deal was near, only for negotiations to extend, as previously reported by MSI.
The Iranian foreign ministry offered a contrasting timeline. Esmaeil Baqaei, the ministry spokesperson, said earlier Saturday that while a deal remained possible, “it will not be tomorrow.” Baqaei added that “the possibility of this happening in the coming days cannot be ruled out.”
In a separate Truth Social post, Trump claimed that Iran “no longer want a Nuclear Weapon, nor will they have one, either through purchase, development, or any other form of procurement.” Trump has said the deal would prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon while also reopening the strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments.
