  • Eritrean soldiers in military vehicles crossed from Eritrea into Ethiopia's Tigray region on Wednesday, reaching the town of Adigrat about 25 miles (40 kilometers) inside Ethiopian territory, Acled, civilian witnesses and a militia commander said.
  • Ethiopian government drones struck the Eritrean troops on Wednesday evening and again Thursday morning, according to Acled.
  • Eritrea's information minister, Yemane Ghebremeskel, did not confirm or deny the troop presence, saying Eritrea is "not in the business of refuting wild allegations or narratives."
  • The Guardian's reporting frames the Eritrean incursion as a preemptive response to a perceived Ethiopian invasion risk tied to Red Sea access, superseding Eritrea's historical enmity with the TPLF.
  • A Crisis Group analyst said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed might attempt to invade Eritrea while pressing operations in Tigray; British government estimates place civilian deaths from Ethiopia's 2020-2022 civil war at 300,000 to 800,000.
