  • The Wall Street Journal reported that a February U.S. missile strike killed Jibril "One-Armed" Yahya Ali, an al-Shabaab operative who brokered weapons and training deals with Yemen's Houthi rebels since at least 2023.
  • Two American sources familiar with the operation confirmed the strike; U.S. Central Command said the killing was not a military operation and the Central Intelligence Agency declined to comment.
  • At least 100 al-Shabaab fighters have traveled to Yemen for Houthi training in drones and roadside-bomb construction, and a Houthi delegation crossed the gulf in June to coordinate disruption of Israeli activities in Somaliland.
  • U.S. Africa Command has carried out about 40 airstrikes against al-Shabaab targets in Somalia this year, compared with 41 for all of 2025, according to command figures.
