  • The Vatican said surgeons removed a lower lobe of the Pope's right lung and that the pontiff was subsequently diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma.
  • The Vatican said the operation was "successful" with no complications and that the Pope awoke normally; the Vatican said Wednesday morning that the pontiff had a "peaceful night."
  • Louis Prevost was first diagnosed with cancer in 2017, underwent treatment in 2019, and "fell out of remission" three months ago, Deborah Prevost said.
  • The Pope is expected to remain hospitalized for a week, and doctors said the pontiff is walking and recovering "as expected" after surgery.
