Hugh Laurie, Joe Alwyn join cast of BBC/MGM+ le Carré adaptation 'Legacy of Spies'

  • Hugh Laurie and Joe Alwyn have joined the cast of the espionage thriller Legacy of Spies, an eight-part series based on John le Carré's novels The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and A Legacy of Spies.
  • The series, which will air on the BBC in the United Kingdom and on MGM+ in the United States, will also feature previously announced actors Matthew Macfadyen, Charlie Hunnam, and Daniel Bruhl.
  • Le Carré's sons and executive producers Stephen and Simon Cornwell said in a statement that reuniting with Laurie and Alwyn was "a remarkable privilege as we build out the world of the Circus."

  • BBC presenter Matt Chorley has apologised for misquoting Reform UK leader Nigel Farage on Tuesday's episode of BBC Two's Newsnight, saying he had "misremembered" Farage's call for "pure cold rage" over the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak.
  • Chorley said "white cold rage" instead of "pure cold rage" on camera three times during an interview with Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch.
  • Farage said his legal team had written to the BBC demanding a "full on-air apology and investigation into the defamatory comments made about me on Newsnight."
  • The BBC removed the episode from iPlayer and BBC Sounds and directly apologised to Farage.
  • The misquote came as national outcry over the police handling of Nowak's murder continued, with 11 officers and a police dog injured during protests in Southampton on Tuesday night.
