Apple TV announced Thursday it has renewed its mystery-dramedy “Widow’s Bay” for a second season, giving the series a vote of confidence from the streaming service.
The series stars Matthew Rhys as Mayor Tom Loftis, the chief executive of a cursed island off the coast of Massachusetts. Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll and Dale Dickey co-star as his quirky constituents.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV, said in a statement Thursday that the show had connected with audiences. “From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created,” Cherniss said. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”
Creator, showrunner and executive producer Katie Dippold offered a lighthearted description of the upcoming season. “Season 2 is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about,” she said.
Apple TV also promoted the renewal on social media, posting on X that “Mayor Tom Loftis declares Widow’s Bay remains totally safe and open to visitors” alongside a renewal graphic.
No premiere date for the second season has been announced.
