Guinness World Records has confirmed that a South Carolina parakeet named Spoodles is the world’s oldest living parakeet at 32 years and 86 days old.
Spoodles, a plum-headed parakeet owned by Charleston resident Amanda Beth, was verified by Guinness as the oldest living parakeet as of March 28, 2026. Guinness made the announcement public Friday.
Beth said she received Spoodles as a gift from her mother in 1997, when the bird was already 3 years old.
“I always joke that he keeps not dying, so I keep feeding him,” Beth told Guinness.
The parakeet was once more talkative, Beth said, but still greets each morning with a “pretty bird.” She described him as having a “cute little personality” and said his behavior reflects the care of his first owner.
“He certainly has a cute little personality,” Beth said. “His first owner sounds like she was a really nice lady based on what he says and how he acts.”
Parakeets typically live 15 to 20 years in captivity, according to Guinness. Spoodles has surpassed that range by more than a decade.
The previous oldest parakeet on record, according to Guinness World Records, was a parakeet named Charlie who lived to 29 years old.
