Stillwater Animal Welfare officers responded to a call from witnesses who reported a dog trapped in a drain covered by thick metal bars, the agency said. The Stillwater Fire Department was contacted for help, and firefighters removed the drain cover, allowing the dog to be lifted out of the drain, according to officials.
The female dog was taken to a veterinarian for a health check to ensure she had not suffered any ill effects from being confined in the high heat, authorities said. Officials said they are continuing efforts to identify and contact the dog’s owner.
