A shooting in an industrial area of Midland, Texas, left one person dead and nine others wounded Friday, authorities said. The suspect was pronounced dead after a standoff with police, and the scene was declared resolved by early afternoon.

Midland Mayor Lori Blong said officers received the first calls about the shooting at 8:03 a.m. local time and quickly responded. When officers arrived, they heard gunfire coming from a building, according to a police statement. SWAT and other agencies were dispatched, and the suspect was contained before being found deceased.

Midland Memorial Hospital said it received nine victims, and four were undergoing surgery as of Friday afternoon. The hospital’s emergency department was in lockdown as a security precaution, local media reported.

Blong said there were 11 known victims, including the deceased. The shooting occurred in what authorities described as an industrial area of the city, about 300 miles west of Fort Worth and Dallas.

Police said the active shooter incident had been resolved and asked the public to avoid the area. The identity of the suspect and the motive remain under investigation.
