A 51-year-old man fell to his death during a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday night, police said. Officers responding to a 911 call around 9:51 p.m. found the man unconscious and unresponsive with injuries indicating a fall from an “elevated position,” according to a New York City Police Department statement. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Connecticut-based rock band Goose was performing the second night of a two-night booking at the arena. The group posted a statement on Facebook saying it was “deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred.”

Madison Square Garden, one of the most famous indoor venues in the United States, had recently been the center of the city’s attention as the New York Knicks clinched their first NBA championship in more than 50 years at the arena. The incident occurred inside the venue, and authorities said Sunday morning it was not clear from what height the man fell.

Police have not released the man’s name pending notification of family.
