FORT STEWART, Ga. — A military judge sentenced Army Sgt. Quornelius Radford to life in prison with the possibility of parole Tuesday for a shooting last August that wounded five people at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

The sentence, reported by local news outlets, followed a court-martial last week in which Radford was convicted of attempted murder. The 29-year-old soldier had previously pleaded guilty to lesser charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence in March, but he maintained that he never intended to kill anyone.

Army prosecutors said Radford targeted leaders of his supply unit when he opened fire with a personal handgun on Aug. 2025. The shooting wounded four fellow soldiers and his then-fiancée, Raekwon Smith.

Smith testified that he followed Radford onto the base because he feared the soldier was suicidal and was shot during the encounter.

Radford’s guilty plea in March covered charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence. Despite that admission, prosecutors pressed ahead with the attempted murder trial, arguing that the evidence showed Radford intended to kill the people he shot.

The military judge’s sentence of life with the possibility of parole means Radford will be eligible for release after serving a period to be determined by military parole authorities. He will serve the sentence in a military prison.
