Baiju Bhatt, the billionaire co-founder of Robinhood Markets and Cowboy Space Corp., weighed in on the debate over luck versus skill in a recent episode of The Wall Street Journal’s “The WSJ Money Interview.” Asked whether skill or good fortune is behind everything from pivoting a business model to creating a viral meme, Bhatt was unequivocal about one of them. “The meme? All skill,” he told host Gunjan Banerji.

Bhatt also shared the tough moments he overcame while building Robinhood, the commission-free trading app he co-founded in 2013 that helped spark a retail investing revolution. He outlined his framework for Cowboy Space Corp., his second venture, which aims to build data centers in space.

The interview, posted June 26, 2026, is part of the Journal’s biweekly series featuring conversations with prominent business figures. Full-length episodes are available to WSJ subscribers.
