The Democratic National Committee is coordinating hundreds of community events across the United States this weekend aimed at harnessing voter frustration over the cost of living, the same affordability issue that President Donald Trump rode to victory in 2024.
Thousands of party members are expected to spend the weekend participating in canvasses, community meetings, voter registration drives, volunteer trainings, phone banks, and service events, the DNC said. The party described the push as a “Weekend of Action” focused on affordability and holding Republicans accountable.
DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a statement that the weekend’s activities are part of an effort “to reach, engage, register, and mobilize voters who will make the difference in races up and down the ballot.” He said the party is directly blaming Republicans for rising prices.
The push marks a sharp reversal in Democratic messaging on the economy. Two years ago, Democrats were the party being accused of being indifferent to Americans’ anger about rising prices. Now the party is seeking to turn that anger against Republicans in charge of the White House and Congress. Trump has publicly downplayed the impact of lingering inflation, even as the issue remains a top concern for many households.
The weekend of action comes just months before the 2026 midterm elections, when all 435 House seats and roughly a third of the Senate will be on the ballot. Democrats need to flip four seats to reclaim control of the Senate and a smaller number to win back the House. The party has already invested heavily in voter registration and field organizing, including a multimillion-dollar effort announced earlier this year to bring registration under direct party control.
