Paigelynne Gonyea said she was working at a polling place in Syracuse on Tuesday when two federal officers approached her. The officers handed her a written notice stating that her social media activity might violate federal laws that prohibit publicly posting personal information about federal officers, Gonyea told the Associated Press.

The warning, Gonyea said, related to a post she made on Instagram in January. In the post, she shared a photograph of Jonathan Ross, the ICE officer who shot and killed Renee Good in Minneapolis, and wrote: “I think today is a great day for Jonathan to be indicted.”

Gonyea said the post was still up on her Instagram account as of Wednesday and that she had no plans to remove it.

“I plan on using this experience to defend and support our First Amendment right,” Gonyea said. “Our first amendment rights definitely need to be protected now more than ever.”
