Police find methamphetamine, marijuana during Gillum traffic stop

Andrew Gillum was arrested late Thursday in Daphne, Alabama, after police said they saw him driving erratically, WPLG-TV reported, citing police accounts. An officer who approached the vehicle spotted a glass pipe, according to police, and a subsequent search uncovered several marijuana cigarettes and three packages of a substance identified as methamphetamine.

Jail records show Gillum, 46, was charged with possession of dangerous drugs, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana. He was released the following day.

The FBI investigated Gillum for alleged corruption while he served as mayor, though no criminal charges were brought in connection with the probe. Gillum paid a $5,000 fine in the matter, according to The Hill.

In 2023, a federal jury found Gillum not guilty on charges of lying to the FBI. A U.S. attorney subsequently dropped the remaining charges against him.

In March 2020, Miami Beach police said they encountered Gillum at a hotel where he appeared inebriated and was in the company of two other men. Police said they found a substance they believed to be crystal meth, but Gillum was never charged in that incident. Gillum said at the time he had been drinking but denied using drugs.

Gillum served as mayor of Tallahassee from 2014 to 2018. He lost to Republican Ron DeSantis in the 2018 general election.
