EF2 tornado sweeps Huanggang as more than 330 are injured
The storms began Monday evening, with the official Xinhua news agency reporting that multiple areas across eastern Hubei were struck by thunderstorms. Xinhua reported more than 330 injured and one person still missing.
An EF2 tornado tore through the city of Huanggang. Xinhua reported that several buildings were damaged and that a logistics company and warehouse complex were hard hit. The report said several trucks were lifted and moved by winds up to 30 meters (98 feet).
Structural damage was widespread. More than 20 homes collapsed, according to Xinhua, and more than 4,800 others sustained damage. Xinhua said the bad weather was affecting 14,600 people.
A video published by Shanghai Daily on the social media platform X appeared to show the storm’s intensity from inside a building. In the footage, strong winds forced open a glass door, shattering one of the panes, as people on the ground floor screamed.
