Europe, Americas post gains; EV sales gain momentum with new iX3
The German auto maker reported the figures Friday, with a 20% drop in China sales for the first half pulling down the company’s global total. The decline accelerated in the second quarter, with China sales falling 30% from April through June compared with a year earlier, BMW said.
By contrast, Europe – BMW’s largest market by volume – saw a 5.4% increase in deliveries over the first six months of the year. Sales in the Americas rose 3%, the company said.
“Despite challenges worldwide, we achieved positive sales results in the U.S. and Europe,” Jochen Goller, BMW’s board member responsible for brands and sales, said in a statement.
BMW also reported momentum in its fully electric vehicle segment. The company said sales of its electric models gained momentum in the second quarter, with the start of customer deliveries of the new electric iX3 model.
