Eight charged in 2025 inmate death; former workers among indicted
TIPTONVILLE, Tenn. — A Lake County grand jury has returned 50 indictments across 19 criminal cases involving violent acts at Northwest Correctional Complex, District Attorney Danny H. Goodman Jr. announced Tuesday.
The indictments cover five separate incidents in which inmates were killed during 2025 and 2026, according to a release from Goodman’s office. Eight people were indicted for the first-degree murder of an inmate on Aug. 12, 2025. Six people were indicted for the first-degree murder of an inmate on Oct. 8, 2025.
Two former employees of the prison face charges including aggravated assault, assault, official misconduct, official oppression and violating the oath of office, the release said.
Other charges returned by the grand jury include especially aggravated rape, especially aggravated kidnapping, attempted first-degree murder, assaults on correctional staff and possession of controlled substances.
Goodman said the names of those indicted are being withheld until all individuals have been arrested or served notice.
