UK prosecutors seek extradition on rape charges

Brady McCarron, a spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service, told the Associated Press that the warrant under which the brothers were taken into custody was sealed, and no information about the federal charges was made public Saturday.

The Crown Prosecution Service in Britain issued a statement Saturday saying it was seeking the extradition of Andrew and Tristan Tate on rape and sex trafficking charges. The CPS said the offenses are alleged to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017.

The brothers are former professional kickboxers who have built large social media followings — particularly among young men and boys — by promoting a lifestyle of luxury and an ideology of unapologetic misogyny and hypermasculinity.

Andrew and Tristan Tate, who are dual U.S. and British citizens, moved to Romania in 2016. They were arrested there in 2022 on separate allegations that they participated in a scheme that lured women to Romania for sexual exploitation. The brothers denied those allegations, and the case did not proceed because of what authorities described as legal and procedural irregularities.
