A pediatrician urges caution for babies during summer heat waves

Human-caused climate change is making heat waves longer, stronger and more widespread, according to the AP

A heat dome across much of the United States last week drove dangerous temperatures, underscoring the risks summer heat poses to infants and young children, a pediatrician warned.

“We talk about drowning and choking with toddlers, and now we’re starting to add in heat,” said Dr. Katherine Williamson, a pediatrician with Rady Children’s Health in Orange, California. “It’s become something that’s more commonplace as a potential injury.”

Williamson’s warning comes as human-caused climate change is making heat waves longer, stronger and more widespread, according to the Associated Press.
