Fetterman says Pennsylvania 2020 election was ‘absolutely secure’
Fetterman made the remarks in an interview on CNN’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper, three days after Trump delivered a televised primetime address alleging that China interfered in the 2020 election that he lost to Joe Biden. “I don’t know why the president is dragging up all this stuff,” Fetterman said. “You’re the president. Do something positive – and you are talking about 2020; that’s been settled over six years ago.”
He described Trump’s continued focus on the 2020 race as “deeply unhelpful” and said it distracts from “important things, especially like the Iranian war right now.”
Fetterman, who was the state’s lieutenant governor at the time, told Tapper that Pennsylvania’s 2020 election was “absolutely secure.”
The senator’s latest comments come at a moment of political flux. On Wednesday, he said he would consider leaving the Democratic Party if it became “the anti-Israel party,” after more than 100 House Democrats voted to block military aid to Israel. Fetterman acknowledged some Republican efforts to recruit him to their party but said he disagrees with most GOP policies and has no interest in switching.
