Trump expected to speak at Washington National Cathedral service
The funeral service for Sen. Lindsey Graham will take place Tuesday at the Washington National Cathedral, with President Trump expected to speak and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky among the world leaders likely to attend, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Graham and Netanyahu were close allies who both played key roles advising Trump during the run‑up to the Iran war, the Journal reported.
But Netanyahu’s standing in American politics has shifted. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently called Netanyahu a “war criminal,” the Journal noted. The Wall Street Journal, citing the Times of Israel, reported that Netanyahu’s planned trip to the U.S. was placed on hold amid hesitancy from the White House.
The tensions between Washington and Tehran are intensifying. The U.S. has increased forces in the Middle East, including special‑operations forces and jet fighter squadrons, giving Trump more military options as he weighs whether to expand the scope of the war with Iran, according to officials cited in the Journal.
The Journal noted that circumstances could shift before Tuesday and that it remained possible Trump and Netanyahu would resolve their differences and unite against Iran by next week. The publication described it as difficult to imagine Netanyahu missing the funeral.
