Attorneys cite ‘irregularities’ in grand jury proceedings
David Hearn, a former Olympian, asked a D.C. court on Monday to order the government to release the full transcript of grand jury proceedings that led to his indictment. Attorneys for Hearn argued that “irregularities” in the closed-door process warrant disclosure of the testimony and the legal instructions given to grand jurors.
Hearn pleaded not guilty earlier this month to one felony count of property destruction. The charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, accuses him of causing at least $1,000 in damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. His trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 28 in D.C. Superior Court.
