Amentum took over Camp East Montana after prior contractor removed for poor performance
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency plans to extend its no-bid contract with Amentum Services Inc. to run Camp East Montana in El Paso, Texas, through Sept. 30, 2027, at a potential additional cost of $776 million, according to a notice published last week.
Amentum was initially awarded a $452 million contract in March to take over the facility after the previous operator was removed for poor performance, the notice states. The $776 million extension is in addition to that initial contract.
The extension keeps open one of ICE’s largest and most expensive detention facilities despite months of calls from Democratic lawmakers and advocacy groups to shut it down. They have cited reports that detainees have been routinely mistreated since the camp opened in August 2025.
The notice did not address the allegations of mistreatment.
