Six months on, Guthrie pleads for help finding her missing mother

Surveillance footage shows armed masked person at front door

Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC’s “Today” show, posted a video to Instagram on Monday asking anyone with information about her mother’s whereabouts to come forward. Nancy Guthrie, 84, has been missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home since February 1.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her residence in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson. Authorities believe she was abducted, according to The Guardian. The Wall Street Journal reported that the FBI is investigating the disappearance as a kidnapping.

In Monday’s video, captioned “Bring her home” with a yellow heart emoji, Guthrie said her family was “in agony” and described the situation as “a nightmare that will not end.”

“I know that you have tried to do things the right way. So I’m asking you, begging you, to do the right thing now,” Guthrie said. “Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her.”

She added: “I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end. For all of us, no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done, I believe there is always a way home. Please make the right choice.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI said surveillance footage from the night of the disappearance showed a masked person wearing gloves and a backpack appearing to tamper with a camera at the front door. The individual was armed, according to the agencies.

Investigators recovered drops of blood on Guthrie’s porch and initially examined a glove found approximately two miles from the home. The glove appeared to resemble one worn by the suspect in the surveillance footage, but it was later determined to belong to a restaurant worker and was not connected to the case.

The FBI has described the suspect as a man approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build.

The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery. The FBI has separately offered $100,000 for conclusive information. As of Monday, no arrests had been made.

Monday’s video was the latest in a series of public appeals Guthrie has made using her platform as a national television host to keep attention on the unsolved case. In March, she told her former co-host Hoda Kotb: “Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable.”
