Marquette survey showed Hong ahead; Journal Sentinel reported party reviewed allegations
Mandela Barnes ended his campaign for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination on July 30, a day after a Marquette Law School poll showed him trailing Francesca Hong and the same day the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported it had asked Barnes about misconduct allegations that had been reviewed by the state party.
The Marquette Law School survey, released July 29, found Hong leading the Democratic primary field. About a third of primary voters surveyed remained undecided, according to the poll.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported July 30 that it had asked Barnes about allegations of inappropriate behavior that had been lodged with the state Democratic Party, local party officials, and others. The newspaper reported that the state party had conducted a review of the allegations.
Barnes announced his decision in a video posted on his Facebook page. “It’s become very clear who our nominee is going to be,” he said in the video.
The Aug. 11 Democratic primary will select the party’s nominee for governor.
