2021 house sale pushed annual income to $4.2 million
The governor’s office released more than 700 pages of tax filings spanning four years, showing that Newsom and his wife earned between $1.7 million and $2 million annually from 2022 through 2024. The couple paid about half a million a year in federal and state taxes during that period.
The income has been relatively consistent since Newsom took office in 2019, when the couple reported $1.7 million in annual income. In 2021, the family sold a house in Marin County for nearly $6 million, realizing roughly $800,000 from the sale. That year, their total income reached $4.2 million and they paid more than $1 million in federal and state taxes.
Returns for 2025 were not included because the couple filed for an extension and will complete those returns in October.
Newsom is preparing to leave office and considering a 2028 presidential bid.
