AP-NORC poll: 69% of adults call economy poor, 32% approve Trump
The AP-NORC poll surveyed U.S. adults in late July on the national economy and Trump’s economic leadership. Many respondents said the cost of everyday essentials such as groceries and gas was a “major” source of stress in their lives, according to the survey.
Darlene Superville of the Associated Press reported that Trump will hold a Tuesday fundraising dinner at a golf club his family owns in Rancho Palos Verdes, described as a Los Angeles suburb, before heading to the Red Rock casino in Las Vegas on Wednesday for an economy-focused appearance.
Trump’s overall approval rating in the poll stood at 33%, slightly below where he was at the same point in his first term. The 32% who approved of his handling of the economy was lower still, the AP reported.
The visits come as the official U.S. unemployment rate stands at 4.2% in the latest monthly reading, according to Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis data. A broader underemployment measure, which includes discouraged workers and those working part time for economic reasons, was 7.9%.
November’s midterm elections will determine control of Congress.
