Northern Spain expects tourism interest as totality reaches the region
A total solar eclipse will pass over parts of Europe on Aug. 12, including a swath of northern Spain where the moon’s shadow will produce total darkness.
The eclipse’s path will also include parts of Greenland, western Iceland and a corner of Portugal. Much of the rest of the Northern Hemisphere will see a partial eclipse rather than totality.
The event is expected to increase tourism in northern Spain as eclipse enthusiasts travel to the region. Other viewers may watch from cruises in the North Atlantic.
The Associated Press reported that the 2024 total eclipse over North America drew strong interest in smartphone photography. Its coverage of the August eclipse includes guidance for using a phone to capture the event.
Photographing an eclipse presents unique challenges because lighting changes drastically during the event. The eclipse’s broad viewing area means people outside the path of total darkness can still observe a partial eclipse, while totality remains limited to locations within the shadow’s path.
