Lawsuit says DNA analysis cleared her of an aggressive cancer diagnosis
Barksdale was 43 when she underwent a full hysterectomy on May 15, 2025, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit says she was told she would receive instructions about chemotherapy.
The lawsuit alleges that another patient’s tissue sample had been mistakenly labeled as belonging to Barksdale. The sample showed an aggressive form of endometrial uterine cancer, according to the lawsuit.
Barksdale was informed in September that DNA analysis had found the sample belonged to a different patient and not to her, the lawsuit says. The filing does not explain how the labeling mix-up occurred.
Barksdale’s attorneys allege that the error led to the surgery and months of physical and emotional pain. The lawsuit names Kaiser Permanente as the defendant.
Her attorney, Shannan Young, said: “She came into Kaiser Permanente looking for answers, and she left with a diagnosis that did not belong to her. And every step that was taken after that was based off of misinformation.”
