Two killed in Minneapolis streets before Trump pulled back enforcement

The events that frame the primary took place in the streets surrounding the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building, a federal office complex next to the Minneapolis airport. U.S. immigration agents staged at the building for a monthslong deportation campaign, and protesters carrying whistles and cellphone cameras assembled to oppose them. Two people were shot and killed in the city’s streets before President Donald Trump pulled back on the campaign under pressure.
Months later, those confrontations remain the backdrop to Tuesday’s primary. The immigration debate adds a schism to a race that otherwise echoes many of the left-versus-center divides that have played out across the United States this year, according to the Associated Press.
