Suspect and wounded student were both ninth-graders, sheriff said
A shooting inside Warner Robins High School on Wednesday left one student with non-life-threatening injuries and led to the arrest of a teenage suspect who had fled the school, police said.
At an evening news conference, Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton said both the suspect and the wounded student were ninth-graders. The shooting occurred one week into the new school year, Moulton said.
“Today a call that we train for every year happened to come to Houston County,” Moulton said.
Warner Robins, in Houston County, is about 102 miles southeast of Atlanta.
Dozens of law enforcement officers responded to the school, Moulton said. The wounded student was transported to a hospital, where Moulton said the student was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The teenage suspect fled the school after the shooting and was later taken into custody, Moulton said.
It was not immediately known Wednesday whether the school has metal detectors in place. Moulton declined to take questions from reporters at the news conference, citing the active investigation.
