Lawyers say Clayton County confirmed ending the airport police program

Comedians Eric André and Clayton English have settled a lawsuit they filed in October 2022 challenging a Clayton County police program at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport that they alleged relied on racial profiling and coercive drug searches of Black passengers.

The comedians’ lawyers announced the settlement Tuesday. The lawyers said Clayton County has publicly confirmed it ended the program at issue.

According to the lawsuit, Clayton County police singled out André and English because they were Black and questioned them about drugs in separate stops about six months apart. The two men were preparing to board flights when they were stopped, and the police questioning took place in view of other travelers.

In an interview when the lawsuit was originally filed, André called the experience “dehumanizing and demoralizing.”

The Associated Press reported the settlement from Atlanta.
