Florida has carried out more than half of US executions this year

William Frances Silvia’s scheduled execution Tuesday evening would be Florida’s 13th this year and part of a national tally in which the state has carried out more than half of the 22 executions conducted in the United States in 2026, according to the Associated Press.

The three-drug injection is set to begin at 6 p.m. local time at Florida State Prison near Starke.

Silvia, 61, was convicted in the 2006 fatal shooting of his estranged wife, Patricia Silvia, and the wounding of his mother-in-law, Betty Woodard. The case continues what the Associated Press described as “the state’s aggressive use of the death penalty” in Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ final term.

A final appeal remained pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. Florida has two additional executions scheduled in September, according to the AP.
