Detectives say violence was not random; no arrests made
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of five people found on a rural property outside Portland as a homicide. The property sits in Forest Grove, about 30 miles west of downtown Portland.
Authorities initially responded early Saturday to reports of a vehicle fire at the property, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Responders then found the remains of five people and “several domestic animals,” according to the statement.
Detectives do not believe the violence was random, the sheriff’s office said, without sharing further detail. No arrests have been made and no one was in custody as of Sunday.
At a news conference Sunday afternoon, Detective Shannon Wilde said investigators were still working to determine who the victims were. The sheriff’s office did not disclose the ages or genders of the people found, how they died, or what possible connections they might have with one another. The type of animals found dead was also not specified.
