Grand jury in February refused to indict the six Democratic lawmakers
The Legal Accountability Center, a legal watchdog organization, filed bar complaints on Tuesday in New York and Virginia accusing U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and two of her subordinates of violating their ethical duties by seeking federal charges against six Democratic lawmakers for appearing in a video that called on troops to resist unlawful orders.
The complaints target Pirro along with Carlton Davis and Steven Vandervelden. According to the filings, the prosecutors abused their prosecutorial powers to pursue what the Legal Accountability Center described as “meritless” indictments against President Donald Trump’s “perceived political enemies.”
A spokesperson for Pirro’s Washington-based office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the allegations.
The Justice Department’s prosecution effort targeted Sens. Mark Kelly and Elissa Slotkin, and four House Democrats. All six lawmakers previously served in the military or at intelligence agencies. The case stemmed from a video in which the lawmakers urged U.S. service members to follow established military protocols and reject orders they believed to be unlawful.
In February, a grand jury in Washington refused to indict the lawmakers. President Donald Trump had publicly accused them of sedition “punishable by DEATH” in a social media post.
