Strike brings campaign death toll to at least 227 across 68 attacks
The military did not provide evidence that the struck vessel was ferrying drugs. A video posted on X showed an image of what appeared to be a moving boat followed by a flash.
The Tuesday strike is the latest in a monthslong military campaign the Trump administration has expanded across the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean against targets the administration calls “narcoterrorists.” It raises the total killed in U.S. boat strikes against suspected traffickers to at least 227 across 68 strikes since the campaign began nearly a year ago, the Associated Press reported.
As with most of the military’s statements on strikes in the eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, Southern Command said it had targeted the alleged drug traffickers along known smuggling routes.
