CIA director makes surprise Moscow visit, delivers warning to Russia
The Wall Street Journal reported that Russia and Ukraine have escalated long-range drone and missile strikes as their ground war remains locked in stalemate, with Moscow betting that sustained strikes can break the will of Ukraine’s civilian population and Kyiv seeking to cripple the industries underpinning Russia’s economy.
The Journal reported that Moscow is wagering on a sustained bombing campaign to erode Ukrainian civilian morale. Kyiv, for its part, is targeting Russian industries with drone and missile operations. The Journal characterized the shift as a deadlier fight unfolding in the skies, even as positions on the ground have stayed static.
Despite the rising civilian toll and widening destruction that has accompanied the air campaign, neither side is close to breaking the other, according to the Journal.
