NYPD fatally shoots attacker who brandished knives at officers
The New York City Police Department on Tuesday identified the woman fatally stabbed in Times Square a day earlier as Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old New Jersey resident who worked as a vice president in Bank of America’s global corporate and investment banking division.
Piacenti was stabbed in the abdomen near Seventh Avenue and West 42nd Street shortly after 4:20 p.m. Monday, according to the NYPD.
A Bank of America spokesman said in a written statement: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. She was a valued teammate who will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to her family and all of her loved ones.”
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the attack on Piacenti a “random and unprovoked attack.” A 68-year-old man was also stabbed in the incident and remained in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital on Tuesday.
The NYPD identified the attacker as Pamela Cisneros, 49. Officers tased Cisneros and then shot her as she walked toward them brandishing two large knives, the department said. Cisneros was taken to Bellevue, where she died.
The fatal shooting of Cisneros is being investigated by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.
