Funding extends past September 30 fiscal year-end into early December
The House on Tuesday passed a short-term federal funding measure by a 370-48 vote, sending the bill to President Donald Trump’s desk and clearing the way for the federal government to remain open into early December. The Senate had already overwhelmingly approved the legislation before the House acted.
The bill funds the government past the September 30 end of the fiscal year, extending operations into early December. Lawmakers faced a deadline to act before the fiscal year concluded to prevent a funding lapse, and were determined not to reach that point during the campaign season following the previous fiscal year’s historic shutdowns.
Cole, the Republican chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, said: “It gives the nation and our constituents certainty, certainty that the government will remain open, certainty that our service members will be paid.”
With the House vote, the stopgap measure now moves to Trump’s desk for his signature.
