Police confirm Tucson gay bar shooting was targeted hate crime

Ceesay was new to Tucson, carried list of other LGBTQ venues

The Tucson Police Department released the additional details in a Tuesday night news release, confirming that the early-Monday shooting outside Venture-N had been a targeted hate crime against the LGBTQIA+ community.

The attack occurred around 12:30 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of Venture-N, a gay bar in Tucson, according to the department.

Police identified the two victims as Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33.

The gunman was identified as 44-year-old Ousman Ceesay. Ceesay shot Siqueiros and Capara with a 9mm handgun after confronting them in the parking lot, then shot himself with the same weapon, according to the department.

Both Siqueiros and Capara died at the scene, police said. Ceesay never tried to enter the bar. He was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.

Detectives searching Ceesay’s home found a note indicating he had acted alone and that the shooting was “a targeted attack motivated by hate toward the LGBTQIA+ community,” the department said.

The department said Ceesay was new to the Tucson area and did not know the victims. He had no prior contacts with the Tucson Police Department and was not prohibited from possessing firearms, according to the release.

Ceesay was also carrying a separate note that listed other LGBTQIA+-associated businesses in the region, the department said. The release did not identify those businesses.
