Africa CDC says outbreak has likely not yet peaked
Government data cited by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday showed the outbreak, declared in mid-May, has expanded from three health zones to 60. The data recorded 6,250 cases and 3,039 deaths, figures largely driven by insecurity, displacement, and intense population movements in the affected region.
Africa CDC said Thursday that authorities in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo are shifting to a village-centered approach to combat the country’s ongoing Ebola outbreak, as the virus continues to spread faster than efforts to track and contain it.
Africa CDC, the continent’s top public health agency, said the outbreak has likely not yet peaked.
