Report details alleged inappropriate relationship with security detail member
A report from the Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General alleges that former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer oversaw a “toxic, intimidating and humiliating” work environment and engaged in numerous violations of department policy.
The report documents several specific policy violations attributed to Chavez-DeRemer personally. It accuses her of combining personal and official travel in violation of travel regulations, violating the department’s alcohol policies, directing staff to perform personal tasks on official time, and failing to report gifts through appropriate channels.
The report also alleges that Chavez-DeRemer “engaged in an inappropriate relationship” with a member of her security detail.
The findings also extend to conduct by senior staff under Chavez-DeRemer’s leadership. The report alleges those staff members berated employees in front of colleagues and made staffing decisions based on physical appearance rather than professional qualifications.
