Governments allege carrier ferries cash, weapons, personnel for Guard
Mahan Air, the Iranian carrier the U.S. and other governments allege grew into a “key conduit” for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, is expanding its footprint despite more than a decade under U.S. sanctions, The Wall Street Journal’s Morning Risk Report said Tuesday.
The Journal reported that governments allege the airline ferries cash, weapons and personnel for the Guard, described in the newsletter as “the regime’s powerful Revolutionary Guard,” to support its allies and advance activities “in the region and beyond.”
Mahan operates ostensibly as a private civilian carrier. The Journal did not detail the specific measures in the Trump administration’s push to ground the airline, or describe the routes or destinations where the carrier is expanding.
