One video depicted Trump as a superhero wielding Green Lantern’s ring, building a wall intended to keep migrants out while erecting a slew of busy factories.
Another post placed Trump in a U.S. hockey uniform, towering over Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as Carney cowered on the ice. A third post showed Trump aboard a military ship while the vessel bombarded an enemy fleet.
According to the Associated Press, the imagery fits a public image of Trump that stretches from The Apprentice to the White House and has anchored his appeal.
The posts came as Trump faced domestic and foreign policy challenges. He was struggling to stop inflation, rout the Iranian government and restore American manufacturing through tariffs. Most U.S. adults were unhappy with Trump’s handling of the economy, and most said the Iran war has not been worth it. The gap between the memes and real-world challenges was stark ahead of the midterm elections.
