Person of interest previously faced attempted murder charge in 2019 Houma case
A series of stabbings in Houma, Louisiana, left four people dead and a juvenile in critical condition on Sunday, with the Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s office identifying Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, as a person of interest in the case.
Deputies were initially dispatched to the Ashland Drive area of Houma, where they located a juvenile with apparent stab wounds, according to the sheriff’s office. The juvenile was airlifted to an out-of-area hospital and remained in critical condition.
As the investigation continued, authorities found four deceased victims in a nearby home, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office identified Solet as a person of interest in the stabbings. The designation does not constitute an arrest or criminal charge, and authorities had not announced any charges against him in the current case as of Sunday.
The investigation remained active as detectives continued to gather evidence and develop information surrounding the incidents, the sheriff’s office said.
Solet was previously arrested in connection with a separate 2019 stabbing in Houma, according to a Houma police department news release cited by The Guardian. At that time, Solet was 40 and accused of repeatedly stabbing a 59-year-old woman at a hotel following an argument.
Investigators identified Solet as a suspect in the 2019 case after learning he was a guest in the victim’s room, the release said. Officers reported that the pair had gotten into some kind of argument and that Solet stabbed the victim repeatedly in the upper body and head. The victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Solet was booked in the 2019 case on one count of attempted second-degree murder. The 2019 case is separate from the current investigation, according to The Guardian’s reporting.
