Trump photographed looking at poster appearing to tout Kennedy Center demolition

According to BBC News, federal audit records for 2024 show that the Kennedy Center had a surplus of millions of dollars despite running an operating deficit — a finding that directly contradicts President Donald Trump’s claim that the performing arts venue has been losing “tens of millions of dollars, even hundreds of millions of dollars” for years.

Trump’s claim came as part of his stated effort to add his name to the Kennedy Center, which BBC News described as “the famous performing arts venue.” BBC News reporter Aisha Sembhi explained that the 2024 audit documented both “an operating deficit” and “a surplus of millions of dollars” at the institution. BBC News did not publish specific dollar figures from the audit in its reporting.

Separately, BBC News reported that Trump was photographed onboard Air Force One looking at a poster with a headline that appeared to tout the demolition of the Kennedy Center site. The BBC report was filed by Sembhi, with additional reporting by Tom Edgington.
