Cause of death pending further testing, medical examiner says
The Santa Monica police department is investigating the death of 27-year-old Presley Gerber as a suspected overdose, according to a news release from the department. Gerber, the eldest child of supermodel Cindy Crawford and entrepreneur Rande Gerber, died on Sunday at a rehabilitation facility, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner records.
The medical examiner performed an autopsy but required additional testing before a cause of death could be determined, the records show. The medical examiner did not immediately release a cause of death. A later news release from the Santa Monica police department confirmed the agency was investigating the death as a suspected overdose.
His death was first confirmed by Allie Jenkins, a representative for Crawford and Rande Gerber.
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” Jenkins said in an email.
Gerber had spoken publicly and at length about his mental health and long-term addiction struggles. On the podcast Studio 22 in 2023, he said he hoped sharing details about his experiences would help others coping with similar difficulties.
“That’s really what I want to do: help people, whether you’re depressed, you’re struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body,” Presley said on the podcast. “I mean it could be anything, and there’s no judgment.”
Born in California in 1999, Gerber was his parents’ eldest child and brother of model Kaia Gerber. He was signed by IMG Models at 15 and made his runway debut in 2016 for Moschino’s Resort show in Los Angeles. He went on to work with brands including Celine, Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana and Pepsi.
