Victim’s brother was killed in Gaza war, per UPI report
Neriya Leiter, the son of Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter, was seriously injured in a car ramming attack at a West Bank checkpoint on Wednesday, United Press International reported.
The attack occurred at the Maccabim checkpoint, where Leiter was serving as part of a police patrol crew. According to UPI, a man drove toward a police vehicle at the checkpoint and struck Leiter.
Leiter was evacuated to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. There he received lifesaving treatment before being sedated and placed on a ventilator for additional testing, YNet Global reported.
Leiter is the brother of Maj. Moshe Yedidya Leiter, who was killed in the war in Gaza, UPI reported.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the attack in a series of posts on X. He wrote that he, his wife and all of Israel “are praying for a miracle” for Leiter’s recovery, and addressed the ambassador directly in a separate post: “Yechiel, my dear friend, we are all with you.”
In a third post, Netanyahu said he had recently visited the Leiter family and asked followers to pray for the recovery of “Neria Dov ben Chana.” “The entire nation is with you,” he wrote.
The UPI report characterized the incident as a “car ramming attack.” Netanyahu’s posts described what took place as a “terrorist attack.”
