Porrino-led investigation began after anonymous May letter
Gov. Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat, said Thursday that she had asked Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell to step down after an independent investigation led by former New Jersey Attorney General Chris Porrino documented a pattern of policy violations and a substantiated sexual harassment finding. The Wall Street Journal first reported the call for resignation.
“These violations substantiated in the investigation reflect a pattern of behavior that does not meet the standards of this administration,” Sherrill said. “The ethical lapses persisted despite multiple warnings and trainings. The substantiated finding of sexual harassment is extremely troubling.”
Sherrill’s remarks marked the first time she had publicly addressed the investigation. The probe was prompted by an anonymous letter sent in May, according to the Journal.
Caldwell did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the Journal reported.
The investigation examined allegations of sexual harassment and ethics violations, according to the Journal.
